6th graders talked about their favorite breakfast and how they feel different when they eat breakfast compared to when they skip it. One student said he felt like a Cheetah when he ate breakfast – energized and ready for the day. When he missed breakfast he felt like a turtle, slow to get moving and pulling his head back into his shell.
A good breakfast helps students succeed in school and feel good. Here is a quick easy idea for breakfast:
Blueberry Smoothies
1 cup frozen blueberries
3 ounces frozen orange juice concentrate
1 ½ cups low-fat or non-fat milk
1 eight ounce container of low-fat blueberry yogurt
Measure and put all ingredients into blender. Blend until smooth with visible blue flecks from blueberry skins. Serve immediately. Makes four 8 ounce servings.
